MA州の教育機関は州の教育省が管轄する各局が運営しています。各局のサイトでは法律、規制、教育機関、教員免許など、教育に関連する様々な情報を入手することができます。

義務教育 (Compulsory Education)

MA州は6歳から16歳が義務教育です。その前後の教育年齢は自治体が決定し12年教育を提供しています。傾向としては5歳でキンダーガーテン（Kindergarten）に入学、18歳で高校（High School）を卒業する場合が多いです。一般的には初等部（ Elementary (Kindergarten～5th) ＋ 中等部（Middle School (6th～8th) +高等部（ High School (9th～12th)です。なお日本人が多く住むBrooklineの場合、初等中等部（Elementary (Kindergarten～8th) + 高等部High School (9th～12th)となります。市や町によって異なりますので、居住（予定）地を管轄する自治体や学校区のウェブサイトなどで確認してください。

年度区分

一般的に９月が新年度の始まりで翌年６月（大学は５月）で終わります。自治体により２学期制、３学期制、４学期制など学期区分に特徴があり、さらに児童生徒の誕生日で区切る日付カットオフデート（Cut Off Date）が異なります。例えばカットオフデートが９月１日の場合、8月31日生まれと９月１日生まれのお子様とは学年が変わります。12月1日がカットオフデートの町もあります。

 学校区分

日本と同様、居住地で学校区が変わります。特定の学校にあるESL/ELLへ通う必要があると判断される場合は越境入学希望を申請し、認可されると通学できるようになります。なお日本人が多く住むBrooklineの場合、日本人向けのESL/ELLがある学校が２カ所あり（Lincoln,  Lawrence）どちらの学校へ行くかは教育局等の判断によります。地元の不動産業者等に尋ねるのも一案かもしれません。

GPA（ジーピーエー）成績平均点
高等学校以上の生徒学生が１年間に取らなくてはならない教科の時間数に成績を掛け、総単位数で割ったもの
（成績×単位数）の合計÷総単位数=GPA。多くの場合、4.0 満点で算出します。
